Go a different direction with these daring design options

The Besta system from Ikea includes all shapes and sizes of basic bookcases. By playing around with different bookcase options, you can totally change the look of this project, as we did with the two ideas shown here.
Also, keep in mind that you can just as easily create bitilt - ins from bookcases sold at other stores. Regardless of what cases you choose, the same basic ideas apply: Add a base, secure the cases to the wall and to each other, and tack on base molding and top trim.

Short & Small
Theres no hard and fast rule that says you have to fill a whole wall with ouilt - ms. This shorter unit takes up less space in a room and is just as striking.
Enticing Options. A shorter, smaller bookcase unit can be used for a lot more than housing books, hor example, the top makes a great surface for displaying a fiat - screen television. Or use It as a sideboard for storing dishes in a dining room.

Door Details. For a little variety, you could add a pair of doors to the nvdclle bookcases on this unit. The doors are part of ihe Ikea Besta syscem, so there s no complicated assembly involved in adding this detail to uhe design.

Shallow & Narrow
Though the look of this bookcase is different, you can do the base, molding, and trim in the exarr same fashion as the main bookcase shown on page 18. In fact, adding the molding and trim is easier since you have fewer corners to wrap around.
Go - Anywhere Bookcase. Because this option is so shallow, n can go a lot more places than our main project design can. Plus, its adaptable - just use as many or as few bookcases as you need to fill the space.
